Admissions Policy

Smith’s Wood Academy has approximately 1100 pupils on roll and remains a school of choice for the local community.

Each year, usually in September, we hold an Open Evening and Open Day where prospective students and their families are invited into the school to find out more about our work. Visitors are, of course, welcome to visit us at any time.

If you are considering applying for a place at the Academy for your child and would like to visit the school then please contact Mrs Caroline Schilling, Personal Assistant to the Head of Academy on 0121 788 4103. Alternatively, you can email Mrs Schilling on schilling.c@smiths-wood.com.

Attendance Policy

Smith’s Wood Academy seeks to ensure that all its students receive a full-time education which maximises opportunities for each pupil to realise his/her true potential.  The Academy strive to provide a welcoming, caring environment, whereby each member of the school community feels wanted and secure.

Academy staff are committed to working with students and their families to ensure each pupil attends school regularly and punctually. We expect all students to have at least 97% attendance.

The academy has established an effective system of incentives and rewards, which acknowledges the efforts of pupils in improving their attendance and timekeeping, and will challenge the behaviour of those pupils and parents who give low priority to attendance and punctuality. Academy staff will communicate with students, parents and appropriate agencies to provide mutual information, advice and support.

Further information can be gained from our attendance policy.

School Complaints Policy

There may be occasions when members of our school community wish to raise a concern or a complaint. We would always encourage you to get in touch with the school initially in order that the complaint can be resolved. Further details on how to raise a complaint can be found in our complaints policy.
