Romeo and Juliet. Or, have you got a Golden Ticket?

On Wednesday 21st November a number of students from years 7, 8 and 9 received a Golden Ticket from their teacher, which served as an invitation to view a live stream of Romeo and Juliet from the Royal Shakespeare Company. The students had been chosen by their teachers based on their commitment and progress in the subject, and this event was to be their deserved reward. One parent left this message on MyEd:

My son is so excited because he has been chosen. He keeps saying, “I love my new school”, every time he discovers the good things about it. He is showing a vast improvement, and even thanks me for searching for the best school for him. It’s unbelievable.

A number of schools across the UK took part in this project, and it was hosted by a CBBC presenter. What followed was an absolutely amazing experience, as the audience watched actors from one of the world’s greatest theatres deliver a superb performance. Staged in a contemporary style, the students welcomed the modern take on this famous play. For many of them, it was their first exposure to theatre, and they could not have had a finer introduction.

This may have been the first theatrical experience for many students, but it won’t be the last! We are planning some exciting trips later this year, so watch this space.
